what I found interesting...
One of the most interesting points in this chapter was how we involve ourselves in environmental factors and premises that improve our cultural goals and images of ourselves. Furthermore, I enjoyed the section about our culture and role identities and how in every culture people are classified according to factors such as age, status, occupation, gender, and so on. We also have to be aware of cultural conventions and familiarizing oneself with basic values and customs. We also must come into terms with diversity and personal growth meaning that, we should accustom ourselves to other norms and experiences. This will allow for our choices to be stimulated and widen our imagination through development and sense of belonging. In addition, we have to make sure we know that cultures should be learned and shared as well. Moreover, cultures are a group of understandings rather than individual ones, and belonging to a culture means acting according to group norms. Chapter 12 taught me a lot about the intercultural communication theories and what I should know and be more aware of on a daily basis. Furthermore, I was able to personally analyze how I situate myself in other cultures and norms and what I still need to learn. I enjoyed reading through this chapter and familiarizing myself more with what barriers and characteristics there are.
