Interpersonal Communication

One of the topics that I found most interesting this semester, was the concept of intercultural communication and the ways we interact in relationships. This topic is of most importance to me because I have found these to be applicable in my life because I have had to deal with listening and compromising in situations. Interpersonal communication is a complex idea in itself because it requires knowing and learning what the other person is trying to say, feel, or communicate, and having to respond adequately can be difficult without being too emotionally involved and being defensive. Often we encounter arguments where we are not rationally or logically thinking because we are too caught up in our feelings and emotions and we forget how to interact appropriately with reasoning. I have had that difficulty in life where instead of reading the other situation, I was only stuck on what I had to say and how I felt rather than finding a center with that person and working through a solution that was beneficial to both of us. After experiencing many of these situations, I have been able to mature more and understand how important it is to compromise and understand every side of every situation. Now I can feel more confident in addressing and expressing my feelings logically and with reason, rather than jumping too quickly to conclusions. I have realized that being completely open and listening to the others will benefit me and future situations. Learning more about interpersonal communication was a good experience and concept for me to know.
